The Milky Way at Mono Lake

I pulled into a parking lot near the edge of the lake hours after the sun had set. I stepped out of the Jeep and looked up to see the Milky Way in all its glory, stretched across the sky above me. I don’t know if I had ever experienced an area this untouched by light pollution. I’ve seen the Milky Way in a few different places throughout my life but this was by far the most impressive.

Driving from Portland to San Francisco

I was raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida, sand between my toes and sun on my skin bring feelings of childhood ease and nostalgia. That being said, the coast out here couldn’t be more different than the one I used to live on. Digging holes, catching sand crabs, earning my freckles, and feeling scared to walk out into the ocean because I had to '“shuffle my feet” in fear of stingrays. This coast is a visual dream. When I make it out here, I am filled with inspiration and wonder.

An Afternoon at Yosemite Falls

I thought this water was so beautiful, crystal clear and surrounded by rocks and boulders that appeared a bluish green from below the surface. I really wanted to get to the other side of the river at the base of the falls and I was going to have to wade through some of this beautiful water to do it, with my camera. The water was quite chilly as I tested it.

First Snow

The infamous Taylor Anderson texted me on Monday night with the invite to hike the cone and and build a kicker. Which I responded an immediate "YES". However, all I have are Tevas and Vans, and absolutely no proper snow gear. So pleased to say that between Sam and Taylor I was outfitted from head to toe, board, boots, and all, by these 6ft plus, tall guys. Solid.

Exploring Cascadia State Park

We spend some time enjoying this first section of the river. I've never seen rock formations in a river like the ones here, not sure if formation is the right word. I'd assume the river made the rock look this way, with pools and arches under the surface, maybe erosion is a better word. I'm no geologist. I can say it was terrific.
